Root architecture and root hair formation are important factors in efficient uptake of nutrients. Improved nutrient uptake in soybeans could help increase yield and quality. Little is known about root structure factors contributing to good nitrogen fixation. This study will use a fast neutron irradiated soybean population to create mutations and identify changes in root architecture that can impact symbiotic root nodule formation and identify genes that underlie the root architecture and symbiotic nodule formation phenotypes.
