Odors from livestock facilities have been identified as a significant point of conflict between producers and their surrounding neighbors. Three primary sources of livestock odors have been categorized as: livestock holdings (barns, feedlots, and pens), manure storages, and land-applied manure. While investigations have been made to identify and characterize odor and associated chemicals for the first two odor sources, very few studies have addressed odor from land-applied manure. Significant challenges exist in the characterization of odors from land-applied manure.
