Brief Project Summary:

The objective of this project is to sequence the genome of the soybean aphid, Aphis glycines, the most important insect pest of soybean production in the U.S.A. Knowledge of the complete genome sequence of the soybean aphid will be the gateway to improved management and control of this pest. Results will lead to the identification of genes giving the ability of aphid biotypes to attack particular resistant soybean cultivars. This information will in turn enable researchers and seed companies to monitor the spread of virulent aphid biotypes in order to determine where best to deploy resistant cultivars with appropriate resistance genes or recommend other control measures.
