Southern Illinois University breeding program focuses on the development of soybean lines with increased yield, improved quality traits (protein, oil and isoflavones) and resistance to existing and emerging diseases (sudden death syndrome, soybean cyst nematodes, frog eye leaf spot, and virus diseases). The ultimate goal is to release varieties with increased value for the benefit of Illinois soybean farmers. Our efforts are long term and funding is used to conduct research on the improvement of breeding methodology and the identification, genetic analysis, and breeding of new genes that will improve the genetic profile of the existing germplasm.
