Brief Project Summary:

The kudzu bug (Megacopta cribreria) is a species of Hemiptera similar to stink bugs, but not in the same family (stink bugs are Pentatomidae, and kudzu bugs are Plastabidae). This insect or family was not known to occur in the western hemisphere until recently where a large numbers overwintered in homes in the Atlanta/Athens area. It is native to Asia and besides kudzu it is a pest of several crops, primarily legumes, but in particular soybean. The Kudzu bug has been shown to feed on soybean and has been reported spread throughout the upper half of Georgia, into South Carolina, North Carolina, Alabama and probably Tennessee.
