The Alabama Agricultural Experiment Station, the Department of Agronomy and Soils, and the USDA oil Dynamics Lab at Auburn University maintain two of the oldest, continuous cropping experiments in the United States, The Old Rotation (circa 1896) and the Cullars Rotation (circa 1911). Both are on the National Register of Historical Places. In addition, changes in cultural practices e.g., irrigation and conservation tillage, and cultivars enable these experiments to remain relevant to modern agriculture.
