The proposed project is a continuation of our on-going projects on mapping and identification of genes controlling resistance to various Soybean Diseases including viruses. Our original virus research was initiated with "seed money" provided by the Virginia Soybean Board over a decade ago. The funds requested here are to supplement our large multi-institutional project expected to be funded by the USDAs National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) program on Global Food Security. The long-term goal of the proposed project is to develop disease-resistant and high-yielding soybean cultivars adapted to the Virginia growing conditions.
