Brief Project Summary:

Liberty Link soybean is a technology that is available to growers in addition to Roundup Ready Soybeans. Liberty herbicide is similar to glyphosate or Roundup herbicide with similar physical properties and kills most plants that are sprayed. It has significant activity on both grass and broadleaf plants and is most active during sunlight and warm/hot temperatures. It is different from Roundup by not translocating throughout plants, but shows contact herbicide type symptoms where spray droplets land on leaves.

Adjuvants are products added to the spray tank that enhances herbicide activity. This is done by helping keep the herbicide more uniform in the spray tank, capturing more droplets...

Final Project Results

Generally, nonionic surfactants and oil adjuvants did NOT increase weed control when added to Liberty, and in some examples, antagonized control. AMS enhanced Liberty more than any other adjuvant or adjuvant class.

Generally, most other adjuvants did not influence herbicide activity or had a negative effect. These findings show the addition of AMS is essential to herbicide activity. The recommended rate of AMS with Liberty is 3 pounds per acre. NDSU research (not included) shows this rate to be minimum and rates greater than 3 pounds per acre will provide additional herbicide activity from Liberty.

The United Soybean Research Retention policy will display final reports with the project once completed but working files will be purged after three years. And financial information after seven years. All pertinent information is in the final report or if you want more information, please contact the project lead at your state soybean organization or principal investigator listed on the project.
