The soybean checkoff works to improve farmers’ profit potential through marketing and promotion, production research and educational efforts. At the state level, VSB focuses on challenges and opportunities faced by Virginia soybean farmers.

VSB allocates nearly 50 percent of its operating budget each year to production research. The research helps leverage state and federal funds for research at Virginia universities. The projects change each year, but past VSB-funded projects addressed genetics, disease and pest pressure, production systems and efficacy of fungicides, herbicides and insecticides.
